Hello Hello! My name's Jessi, and I am a queer artist currently based in Tkaronto, though legally a citizen of both the United Kingdom and Canada. Since obtaining a BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre from the Guildford School of Acting, I have been fortunate enough to have worked as an artist within the UK, Canada, Japan, and recently did a short stint out in Tampa for Norwegian Cruise Lines. I am particularly interested in exploring pieces that examine emotional/physical intimacy, PTSD, nuanced queer love, and sociopolitics. Lillian Hellman, Timothy Findley and Ellie Moon are playwrights by whose work I am particularly moved. 

 

I am extremely passionate about getting new material out into the theatre circuit; let’s support playwrights while they are still alive, eh? Plays I'm presently reading through include Age is a Feeling by Haley McGee and The Inheritance by Matthew Lopez. There is a script of my own I've been working on, though I am dyslexic so it's taking a little longer than I thought.. one day, you may have the privilege of reading it.

 

This past year, I have trained with the IDC to obtain my Level 1 and 2 in Intimacy Direction Foundations, and received my full Consent-Forward Artist Certificate earlier this year. I've also been researching and reading more into theatre organisations that do restorative justice work, particularly with individuals who are incarcerated. I am actively working on educating myself, and hoping to shadow others and gain more experience in these fields in the near future.
